It's 1982 and by this time I had already owned five Falcons, the nicest being a 1969 Sports Coupe, but the 64-65 body style was what I really wanted. Fast forward to December, 1983. I purchase my 65 2 door sedan and spend 3 years cleaning it up. While I was working on it, I buy another Falcon, Rick F's 61 2 door station wagon. He said he would commit a homicide if I did not sell it back to him when I was done with it. I finish the 65 just in time for the 1985 custom car show. After the show something hits me. This car will only be driven in the summer, so why didn't I buy a rag top? From spring 85 on I look for an affordable car. I spent the better part of two years trying to buy Ken D's 64 Sprint from its previous owner. Now it's 1991 and a friend tells me about a yellow Futura ragtop for sale. I go look at it. It's in rough shape but it's the closest to an original I had seen in a long time. Unfortunately, the lady who had it wanted a lot more than I could afford. I ask her for a picture of the car so I can bring it to a club meeting. I spend the next six months trying to convince her to sell it to me for a fair price but it's sold to another lady. I keep the picture on my fridge for another year. Why?, I don't know. Since 1985 I had seen about a dozen ragtops, then in summer 1998 I was at an appointment and in a parking lot at False Creek I see a yellow 64 ragtop. I spend 15-20 minutes looking at the car hoping the owner will show up. When she does I spend another hour talking to her and she tells me she was going to sell it after the summer. She asks if my name is Joe and I think here we go again. But the previous owner had told her nothing but good things about me and as I wipe my brow she says if she were to sell it early she would sell it to me. History will show I bought my yellow 64 Falcon convertible on June 20,1998.
