I was looking for a vehicle to put my 427 engine into, not necessarily a 1964 and just stumbled across this car on the side of a road in Abbotsford. It was a sad looking 170 cid 6 cylinder, 3 speed 2 dor sedan, basic non-500 Fairlane. I immediately thought of a Thunderbolt and paid $450 for it. The sign said $450 obo, but when you look too excited…… I pulled it all apart and found the 4700 miles on the odometer was legit, the original brakes were just like new, tight ball joints, the gear oil in the transmission and rear diff. was green like new (original whale oil too). I did the whole resto thing as well as modifications for racing, trying to duplicate a Thunderbolt down to the last detail. The car was finished after one full time year of work, debuting in 1991. It has a 427 hi-riser making around 600 hp. It has run a best 1/4 mile time of 10.54 at 130 mph. There is more speed left in it yet -always a need to go faster! The car sports a Jerico 4 speed (the owner can't drive automatics). I am currently looking to build a 1964 Comet Caliente hardtop to replace it, with 427, 4 speed etc…. Hope to run quite a bit faster yet. Then the Fairlane will be sold or retired to street use.
