In 1966 I bought my first brand new car, a factory
ordered 1966 Fairlane 500XL convertible. It was light
blue with a white top and had the 390 cid 2bbl V8 engine. I sold that car five years later
for $820. It had only 32,000 miles but now I was married and the family had started. When
I had the opportunity to buy the car below in 1989 I did not hesitate. The GT/GTA is the top/sporty model of the 66 Fairlane
and has the 390 engine (335 h.p.) as standard equipment. The 'A' in GTA stands for
automatic. It was a local B.C. car and although it was in pretty good shape when I bought
it, time has seen many dollars for new parts and labour to bring it to its current
condition. It is not a frame-off restoration, but it looks good and ran without a single
problem to California and back in 1996 to attend a national Fairlane Club of America meet
where it placed third among 66-67 convertibles. I have been a member of the LMFFCOA since
1994.
