Like
many other club members I've had a long association with various Comets and
Fairlanes over the years. A very nice 63 Fairlane sports coupe, a 66
Cyclone GT, a 66 Caliente
hardtop and a 65 Caliente hardtop all many years ago when they were more common
cars than they are today.
Since I located my current Cyclone GT, I have many times reflected on the
first Cyclone I bought way back in 1971 and
my lack of foresight in not stashing it away. The engine
was blown (a 390 GT), the factory four speed and shifter were removed and
installed in my 63 sports coupe, and the
remainder was sold and became a local Victoria Super
Stock race car powered by a 351 Cleveland, winning fame and glory for the
blue oval.
My
current Cyclone GT originates from Atlanta, Georgia according to the DSO code.
How it ever arrived here is a mystery I have yet to unravel. I bought it
in a Langley chicken barn disassembled into several
boxes, but the body was rust free. The car was
basically complete and by the time Halloween rolled around in 1995 a full
restoration was underway.
I
have always enjoyed 60's cars, with a special attachment to the Fords of my
youth. This car is no exception, it's my personal time
machine and driving it rolls the years back. Now if I
could just grow long hair again and find a factory eight track!
